![]() ![]() ![]() The story is adeptly told and highly recommended. At all times, the notion of a redemption road out of this chaos seems to many as an unlikely nirvana or simply a dead end. The plot is complex and well constructed, the writing is superb, and the characters have more dimensions, secrets, and agonies than you can shake a stick at. Meanwhile, Elizabeth is having her own troubles with the authorities over a case she’s involved in. ![]() This appears to prove that everyone else on the police force is right about him and that Elizabeth is naive. When he gets out, the killings start again with the same MO. As a cop, he has a hard time surviving prison. Elizabeth, who was a rookie cop at the time thought he was wrongly convicted. After thirteen years in prison, a good cop walks free as deep in the forest, on the altar of an abandoned church, a body cools in pale linen. A troubled detective confronts her past in the aftermath of a brutal shooting. A boy with a gun waits for the man who killed his mother. Thirteen years prior to the beginning of the novel, a policeman was convicted of killing a young woman and leaving her body on the altar of the church where Elizabeth’s father preaches. Now, Hart delivers his most powerful story yet. Her story in this thriller will carry you through the darkness stemming from multiple characters whose self-righteous evil is as unflinching as Elizabeth’s heart. Her past was cruel to her and it’s neither gone nor forgotten. Elizabeth, the protagonist is a good cop with a good heart that is filled with life-affirming love and infinite grit. There’s enough darkness in this book to cause an eclipse of the sun soon after you begin reading. ![]() ![]() Some days bring seemingly insurmountable odds and other days the way ahead appears to be clear. ![]() The brief essay includes ideas I have considered and lived in the thirty years since it was written. Like Jonathon, I sometimes chose a lonely path, out of step with my contemporaries. At 55 years old I recognize the limitations of the society we live in and appreciate the freedoms I continue to enjoy. Jonathon’s influence on young people may be at an end.Īs I look back the novel continues to influence my approach to life. In my years as a librarian I rarely come across, Jonathon Livingston Seagull, and perhaps the story is dated. Written by Richard Bach, the story set a standard for me, one that I now recognize parallels other, older human stories. The essay was about the novel Jonathon Livingston Seagull and Jonathon’s life. The interpretation presents a familiar black and white world that humans leave as they gain experience and begin to recognize the shades between. As I read back through the essay I recognize a naïve, perhaps innocent, regard for the future. The essay was written in application for a two week intense experience at a university. ![]() The other day while cleaning out an old desk, I found an essay I had written as a senior in High School, over thirty years ago. ![]() ![]() ![]() The music's otherworldly tones have led Michael through the gate between Earth and the Realm of the Sidhedark, where faeries reign by rule of magic-and where Michael must find his muse if he's ever to return home.
